Unico Mechanical was selected to overhaul the gearboxes for San Francisco’s iconic Cable Cars. According to an article on the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) website, the purpose of the Cable Car Barn Propulsion Gearbox Rehabilitation Project was to overhaul and refurbish the five gearboxes that had been in service since 1984. They were in need of a thorough overhaul to keep the world famous cable cars running properly on the streets of San Francisco.
